About this course
This course is designed to support curriculum planning, delivery and assessment of the BTEC Tech Award in Health and Social Care. It focuses on developing confidence in the planning and delivery of the qualification, to include the required internal and external assessment.
The course contains a series of videos to work through at your own pace. In creating these videos, we have brought together a team of curriculum leaders and experienced BTEC Tech Award Health and Social Care teachers to discuss the lessons they have learned from delivering the qualification, to provide practical advice on planning, implementation, and delivery. The course also includes ready-made resources to use or adapt for your centre are available to download in the files section of the course.

All teachers new to or seeking additional support in the planning, delivery and assessment of the BTEC Tech Award in Health & Social Care. This course is also suitable for those deciding whether to offer or transition to this course for the first time.

This session explores options for planning the curriculum and scheduling internal and external assessments and possible resit opportunities. Drawing on practical advice from a panel of experienced BTEC Tech Award teachers, you will explore options for curriculum planning and be able to download a ready-made curriculum plan which you can tailor to your centre’s needs.

Our panel of teachers will discuss their experiences of teaching Components 1, 2 and 3, detailing the challenges and triumphs. The provide countless tips for effective teaching and learning, including ways to maximise performance from all students to include those with SEND and EAL. The panel will share how to facilitate effective and productive internal assessment through the Pearson Set Assignments for Component 1 and 2 and the Component 3 exam.

Lynne Fountain
Lynne is a regular contributor to the tutor2u Health & Social Care team. She has taught Health & Social Care, Sociology and Psychology in FE and secondary schools since 2014. She has successfully led a large Social Sciences department at a girl's comprehensive school in London and she is an experienced examiner, moderator and textbook author. Lynne has a first degree in Sociology and an MSc in Criminology. Prior to her teaching career, Lynne held a variety of roles for the Department for Education, the charity sector, youth justice and a large children's hospital, where she used her Post Graduate Certificate in Health Service Management to manage a forensic paediatric medical service.

Liz Blamire
Liz is the tutor2u subject lead for Health & Social Care. She is a former NHS midwife who has worked in community, birth centre and acute hospital settings. Liz is an SSAT Accredited Lead Practitioner, who has taught Health & Social Care in FE and secondary schools, where she was a successful HOD. Liz has extensive experience in qualification development, assessment writing, examining and moderation, and is a textbook author. Liz has recently completed her MEd in Inclusion and Special Educational Needs, where she focused on the social, emotional and behavioural needs of children and young people.

Lerian Bramble
Lerian is a dual registered professional, with a BSc (Hons) First Class in Midwifery and a PGCE. She works at at an Ofsted Outstanding secondary school in London where she is the Head of Sociology, teaching sociology A Level and currently working to introduce GCSE sociology. She also teaches Health & Social Care to Year 9 up to 6th form. Lerian is a dynamic and enthusiastic practitioner, with an exemplary record of student results.

Laura Godfrey
Laura is a regular contributor to the tutor2u HSC team. She has taught Health & Social Care in secondary schools since 2016. She has been leading a Health & Social Care Department at her secondary school and sixth form in Northamptonshire since 2017 and is an experienced moderator and examiner. Laura has a degree in Sociology and an MBA in Senior Leadership in Schools.
