About this course
This on demand CPD course explores the question types and topics across both Papers 1 and 2 with guided videos and resource downloads. It is presented by Kate, subject expert and experienced examiner, teaches across a large cohort of students - she will talk you through the demands of the different question types through some worked examples, giving valuable insights and advice as she goes. There are also some 'Be the Examiner' activities in the files section for you to work through.

This introductory video provides an overview of the assessment objectives and weightings, paper structures, the command word, and a very quick summary of the different question types which are then explored in more detail in their specific videos in the rest of the course.

This video provides a reminder of Assessment Objective 1 (AO1), and the different command words and question stems which feature in the 4-markers, along with some quick teaching tips on how to approach these questions. Kate then talks through six different examples from the core units on both papers, highlighting marks for point and development.

Video 2 - 4-markers (AO1)

This video looks at the question stems for these analyse/interpret questions and provides some general teaching tips. Kate the models in detail how to approach questions using both quantitative and qualitative figures, discussing how to break down the analysis using the acronym 'PEDAL', and using worked examples to model how to approach answering these questions, but also highlighting where aspects of PEDAL can be seen.

This video looks at the other type of 6 marker which uses a figure but tests AO1 and AO2, covering where these questions feature on Paper 1 and 2, the command words that are used, along with likely question stems, common errors, and tips for how to get students to hone these. Kate then talks through two examples, modelling how students should approach these questions, and highlighting where AO1 and AO2 marks have been awarded.

This videos looks at the where the 9-markers are tested in both papers and the two different types of 9-marker that feature. Kate then talks through a detailed example of both types of question (one with stimulus and one straight-forward essay), explaining how to approach them, possible question stems, and how to pull the question apart to ensure that analysis and evaluation are included, before modelling answers that highlight where AO1 and AO2 marks have been given.

The first video on 20-markers looks at how to ensure students have covered AO1 and AO2 in detail - how to embed scale, explanations and examples for AO1, and how to spot links, analyse and evaluate and the reach a weighted conclusion at the end. Kate talks through teaching tips for each aspect of AO1 and AO2, along with how to plan the essay. The second video put these ideas into action, looking at two worked examples from Paper 1. In the downloads section you will find two 20-markers that have had their AO1 and AO2 highlighted, along with two more than you can use as CPD or can trial with students.
