About this course
This CPD course examines what is meant by market failure, looking at both complete and partial failures. There is detailed coverage, including examples, of each type of failure including public goods (along with quasi-public goods), all 4 externality types, information-related issues, and an overview of other issues regarded as market failure such as monopoly power and inequality. Where appropriate, the videos also cover diagrammatic analysis.
There are plenty of classroom-ready examples along the way, and, throughout the course, we embed analysis and evaluation skills along with application and teaching ideas. We carefully indicate minor differences and emphases between awarding bodies.
This course complements our very detailed On Demand course on Externalities, and can be followed up with our course on Tackling Market Failure.
